January's inaugural challenge for our Astroimaging target is IC 405 The Flaming Star Nebula. Located about 1,500 light years away, IC 405 is a great image for both broadband (RGB/OSC) and narrow band imaging as it contains both a reflection nebula and an emission nebula.

At magnitude 6.7 and its expansive 37' x 19' size, IC 405 should offer an opportunity for most astroimagers.

My image of IC 405 was taken at GMARS during the January Star Party Weekend. Image capture was controlled by SGP/PHD2 and processed in Pixinsight.
